The newly formed Maryland Defense and Aerospace Consortium is set to hold its first meeting Tuesday in Washington. Army Undersecretary Ryan McCarthy will join the meeting, Defense News reported.
The group includes representatives from DOD, industry, workforce organizations and local universities.
Rep. Anthony Brown (D-Md.), a member of the Armed Services Committee. He assembled the new group to ensure more stakeholders, including smaller companies, are involved in issues that relate to NASA and Fort Meade.
“When I think about the workforce shortages, it’s not just the computer science engineer in high demand at Northrop’s Linthicum facility, it’s the welder down at Huntington Ingalls,” Brown told Defense News. “There has to be a public-private partnership.”
