Congress may consider creating a cyber force as the next new uniformed service, CQ reported.
The defense policy bill that became law last month directs DOD to assess “the potential costs, benefits, and value, if any, of establishing a cyber force as a separate uniformed service.”
The 2016 policy bill had ordered a study of all the department’s cybersecurity vulnerabilities and set a deadline of Dec. 31, 2019, according to CQ.
The latest policy bill directs DOD to update Congress on the status of that report.
