Gillis: Missing Housing Rights to be Enacted by May 1

March 11, 2020

During his confirmation hearing Tuesday, Jordan Gillis, nominee for assistant secretary of defense for sustainment said that three missing protections from the DOD’s Tenant Bill of Rights will be added by May 1, military.com reports.

The missing provisions are: withholding rent until disputes are resolved; a process for dispute resolution; and access to maintenance history of a home before move-in.

Members of the senate committee expressed frustration about the missing protections during the hearing, and urged the nominee to put the missing protections in writing. “I think we left those out because we got hung up on details,” said Gillis who has been serving as the principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for installations, energy and environment.
