Military relief societies and nonprofit charities are reporting that “relatively few” military families are applying for financial assistance and aid programs offered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a recent article in Military Times.
Organizations such as the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, Army Emergency Relief and Air Force Aid Society, and Air Force Aid Society report that the relief organizations are approving 98-100 percent of COVID-related requests.
“I’m thrilled to hear the approval numbers. It’s encouraging to know that service members and families who are applying for assistance are getting it, but I am concerned there might be families in need who don’t apply for it,” said Jennifer Davis, government relations deputy director for the National Military Family Association.
Coronavirus-related aid requests by military families typically fall into three categories: food assistance, childcare for essential personnel, and education for military children.
Representatives from military relief organizations predict demand for aid resources to increase over the coming months.
