After initial reports that National Guard deployments would have a “hard stop” on June 24, one day before servicemembers would be eligible for federal benefits, President Donald Trump announced he would secure an extension for the Guardsmen.
“The men and women of the National Guard have been doing a great job fighting the CoronaVirus. This week, I will extend their Title 32 orders through mid-August, so they can continue to help States succeed in their response and recovery efforts,” wrote President Trump in a tweet on Thursday.
Under Title 32 orders, National Guard members are entitled to federal benefits such as 9/11 GI Bill and an accelerated retirement schedule when they accumulate 90 days of active service.
