Braithwaite Sworn in as Secretary of the Navy

June 1, 2020

After a six-month vacancy of the position, Kenneth Braithwaite will take the helm of the Department of the Navy as the next Secretary of the Navy.

Braithwaite was sworn in on May 29 at the Pentagon.

“Our nation is up against perhaps the greatest test of our commitment to the ideals we hold dear than at any time in our history,” wrote Braithwaite. “We must recognize this challenge for all it is and all it presents, lurking in the shadows of deceit or the depths of dishonesty.”

Braithwaite is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Pennsylvania. He was most recently serving as the ambassador to Norway and is the 77th Secretary of the Navy.
