The Department of Defense issued a memo outlining the easing of travel restrictions for permanent change-of-station moves which have been in effect during the coronavirus pandemic.

The exceptions are California, Florida and Michigan; states that seen a surge in COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks.

In order for a location to become open for travel it must meet certain conditions: shelter-in-place (or other travel restrictions) must be removed; the region must see a 14-day decrease in coronavirus cases; 140-day downward trajectory reports of flu-like symptoms; as well as assessing local hospital capacity in a given area.

“If installation conditions are subsequently not met, the approval authority decides if travel restrictions should be reinstated,” according to the press release.

Along with 48 states and territories that received the go-ahead for personnel movement and travel, eight host nations were also delineated as “Green Locations.”

According to a report by Military Times, last week the military saw a 20 percent increase in COVID-19 cases among service members.
