Overseas DoDEA Students to Receive Free Meals for Rest of School Year

October 27, 2020

A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) program which subsidizes U.S. students with meals during the COVID-19 pandemic is being extended to those attending Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools abroad, Stars and Stripes reports.

The program would be extended until June 30 of next year, Army and Air Force Exchange Service officials announced on Monday.

“This is great news for families who may be experiencing financial hardships during this pandemic,” said Tech Sgt. Robert Harris, of the 86th Vehicle Readiness Squadron at Ramstein Air Base, in AAFES’s statement. “I believe it’s something that will help give peace of mind.”

The USDA program extension was granted through “language in the continuing resolution” to keep the government funded, which President Donald Trump signed Oct. 1.
