Some lawmakers are again pushing to make GI Bill benefits for National Guard members and reservists equal to their peers elsewhere in the military, Military Times reports.
“The men and women who serve in the Guard and Reserve make incredible sacrifices for our country just like other service members, and they deserve equal benefits for doing similar jobs and facing similar risks,” said Rep. Mike Levin (D-Calif.), the bill’s sponsor.
It is often difficult for Guard members and reservists to log three years of active-duty service, the current threshold for GI Bill benefits to kick in.
A similar proposal drew bipartisan support in the past but did not get passed before Congress adjourned.
