Almost 5,300 National Guard members are headed to parts of Louisiana and Mississippi that were hit hardest by Hurricane Ida over the weekend and into Monday, Stars and Stripes reported. Guard units from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama had activated by Monday to help other agencies and local responders with rescue and recovery efforts.

“We know that individuals are out there waiting to be rescued,” Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) said.

There were still widespread power outages and road hazards at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans Monday.

Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi said the base would resume normal operations Tuesday.
