White House Expands Assistance for Vets Exposed to Burn Pits, Other Hazards

November 12, 2021

The Biden administration is providing more health care resources for veterans who are sick from exposure to toxic burn pits or other hazardous chemicals during their service.

In a fact sheet, the White House outlined several steps it is taking, including making it easier to show that illnesses may be related to exposure.

“[T]hese actions will improve our understanding of the health effects of military-related exposures, educate providers and veterans about these exposures, and provide timelier access to health services and benefits for individuals who were exposed,” the fact sheet said.

VA plans to hold Q&A sessions about the new disability eligibility and will release public service announcements to raise awareness.

President Biden has said he suspects burn pit exposure was linked to the cancer that killed his son Beau in 2015, The Hill noted.
