Austin to Provide Closed-Door Testimony on Afghanistan

January 6, 2022

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will testify Tuesday at a closed, top secret hearing about the war in – and U.S. withdrawal from – Afghanistan. It will be a joint hearing of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees.

Austin last testified on the issue in September alongside Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley.

Austin is working virtually this week after testing positive Sunday for what he described as a “mild” case of COVID-19; he has had two vaccine shots and a booster. His CDC-recommended quarantine time will end before the Jan. 11 hearing unless he tests positive again.
