Texas received more DOD contract and personnel spending in fiscal year 2020 than any other state, according to data released last week by the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation. California had led the list for fiscal year 2019, as On Base reported last year.

Virginia, California, Maryland and Florida rounded out the top five in terms of total dollar amount spent. Those were also the top five in the previous year.

As a percentage of the state’s GDP, Virginia was the top state for defense spending in fiscal year 2020, followed by Hawaii, Connecticut, Maryland and Mississippi.

The report, “Defense Spending by State,” includes comprehensive reporting on defense spending activity in each state.
