Five military installations in Alaska are not as prepared as they should be for the impacts of climate change, Alaska Public Media reported, citing a recent DOD inspector general’s report. “The report also said that’s because military leaders at the sub-Arctic bases didn’t have enough training, funding or guidance from the Defense Department,” Alaska Public Media’s Claire Stremple reported….
The D.C. National Guard is trying a new tactic of walking busy D.C. sidewalks to talk directly with recruitment targets, AP reported. “It’s very much a walking city, and it’s very much an oral-tradition kind of town,” said the D.C. Guard’s commander, Maj. Gen. Sherrie McCandless. “We’re coming out of the pandemic. People are more mobile again, and frankly a lot of people are trying to figure out what’s next.” The Guard also opened a new recruitment center in a busier part of the city in addition to their offices at the more remote Guard armory.
