Six communities have received a total of $30 million in Defense Manufacturing Community Support Program (DMCSP) grants from DOD, the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation said in a press release. The program “makes long-term investments in critical skills, facilities, workforce development, research and development, and small business support… to strengthen the national security innovation base,” the release said.

OLDCC shared summaries of the project grants, which were awarded to:

  • Mississippi Department of Employment Security (Mississippi-Shipbuilding Industry Preparedness for National Security)
  • New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program, Inc. (New Jersey Defense Manufacturing Community)
  • SAE Government Technologies (Supply Chains of Recovered Elements Consortium in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and West Virginia)
  • University of Illinois (Illinois Defense Manufacturing Consortium)
  • University of Rhode Island Research Foundation (Rhode Island Manufacturing to Accelerate the Defense Ecosystem)
  • University of Texas at Austin (Microelectronics Precision Rapid Innovation and Scaling Manufacturing Network)

“In addition to enhancing our domestic supply chains and reducing our dependence on foreign materials, building strong manufacturing partnerships bolsters innovation and competition and generates a skilled and diverse talent pipeline,” said William LaPlante, the under secretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment.
