The Senate left town after Thursday night’s votes and will remain in their states through the midterms, leaving the National Defense Authorization Act on their post-election plate.
At one point, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) had plans to consider the NDAA in October, but he announced Thursday night that the chamber was adjourning until Nov. 14. That leaves just a few weeks for the current Congress to pass a defense bill and an omnibus spending bill.
The House passed its version of the NDAA in July.
