Coast Guard Asks for Budget Cut

March 17, 2023

While the administration’s request for DOD funding is about 3% higher than the current year’s budget, the Coast Guard – part of the Department of Homeland Security – is proposing a slight decrease in its budget.

The Coast Guard requested $13.45 billion, down from its current year funding of $13.9 billion, saying that will fund the Coast Guard “while building the Coast Guard of the future,” Military.com reported.

The proposal calls for $144 million for a fast response cutter homeport in Seward, Alaska, a waterways commerce cutter homeport in St. Petersburg, Florida, and ongoing support for construction of a consolidated operations command at Charleston, South Carolina.
