Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) will chair a new House Armed Services Committee panel examining quality of life for service members and military families, according to a HASC press release.
“As a veteran myself, this issue strikes home, and I know firsthand the struggles that servicemembers and their families face,” Bacon said in the release.
Rep. Chrissie Houlihan (D-Pa.), the top Democrat on the panel, said in the release that she hoped for “positive, bipartisan steps” to address such issues as mental health, child care and education for military families.
“We cannot have a strong military if we don’t continue to improve the lives and livelihoods of our service members and their families,” Houlihan said. “I look forward to positive, bipartisan steps in the right direction for all of these issues.”
