An Army story looks at the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) program at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. The program, almost 25 years old, pairs soldiers with community volunteers who spend time with them and help them develop life skills. It also reduces isolation. “Soldier suicides are a major concern for senior leaders in the Army,” Fort Jackson Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Cesar Duran said. “And the BOSS program is one tool we use to help single soldiers and service members socialize, get involved, have fellowship with others and give them a sense of community.”…

Leaders from Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico and the Clovis community are cutting the ribbon today on a new off-base apartment complex for single airmen. They said it is a one-of-a kind complex – a privately built and managed housing complex owned by Sendero LLC and leased for five years by the Air Force, KFDA reported. It will house 200 airmen in furnished units.
