Senate Republicans are set to meet today to discuss possible solutions to Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) blockade of nearly 400 military nominations and promotions. Some of Tuberville’s Republican colleagues have started to publicly show frustration with how he is handling his protest of DOD’s abortion access policy.
“We’re going to try every avenue possible” to approve nominations, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) said last week, according to CQ. “I wish that Coach Tuberville, the DOD, [Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer [D-N.Y.], whoever it takes could find a way out of this.”
Tuberville continued last week to note that the Senate can vote on the nominations one at a time. That’s true, but it’s not the typical protocol for most nominations and would likely take months of the Senate’s time.
