The Senate took a big step Tuesday toward sending the final National Defense Authorization Act to the House, as The Hill reported. Senators voted 85-15 to stop debate on the bill, setting up a final vote, possibly today. The House is expected to follow suit later in the week, and the President is expected to sign it. That would mark the 63rd consecutive year that the NDAA has become law.
The bill includes a 5.2% pay raise for service members.
“This is a bipartisan defense bill that addresses the long-term challenges posed by China, Russia and other potential adversaries,” Armed Services Committee Chair Jack Reed (D-R.I.) told reporters.
The Hill also highlighted some of the provisions in the final bill that are considered controversial by some on Capitol Hill.
