Here’s what we’re watching before Congress leaves at the end of the week for its holiday break.
- The Senate is expected to consider the National Defense Authorization Act on the floor over the next few days and may pass it by Wednesday and send it to the House. It seems on track to be signed into law this year.
- The White House’s supplemental spending request is stalled as lawmakers discuss what language to include addressing the migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. If a deal can’t be worked out, Congress may leave for the year without providing additional aid to Ukraine or Israel.
- The Senate may consider some of the four-star promotions that are still being held up and need to be voted on individually, but the bulk of those will probably be put off until next year.
