The administration of Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) declared 2024 the “Year for Military Families.” “Common conception holds that the federal government is uniquely responsible for supporting military families. But it’s on all of us,” Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller (D) and First Lady Aruna Miller wrote in a recent Baltimore Banner op-ed. “States, businesses and nonprofits have a critical role in ensuring military families have the resources to thrive.” Moore announced a package of related legislative and executive priorities last year, according to a press release. They included initiatives on spouse military employment support and doubling state employees’ leave time if they serve in the National Guard or military reserves.
