A top House backer of providing more aid to Ukraine said Sunday he is “confident” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will allow the House to vote on the issue when it returns to D.C. next week, as The Hill reported.

“I believe there will be a vote when we get back from the Easter recess,” Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union. “Certainly, this is critically important for our allies. We are the leader of the free world, and we cannot shirk on our responsibility to uphold and defend democracies across the globe.”

Lawler said he has spoken with Johnson directly and that Johnson understands the threat Russia poses beyond Ukraine.
