NDAA Draft Asks for DOD Study on Privatizing Barracks

May 16, 2024

The House Armed Services Committee’s draft National Defense Authorization Act indicates lawmakers may not be ready to privatize more barracks, as Military.com reported.

“Members aren’t completely bought into privatizing all housing,” a senior Republican committee aide told reporters. “There are problems with privatized housing, just like there are with service housing. So to turn it all over is something I don’t think the members are ready to do.”

The draft bill calls for DOD to further study the “complexities” of contracting out to private companies to manage barracks.

The committee is scheduled to debate and mark up its version of the NDAA next week.
