Michigan, Navy to Partner on Manufacturing Workforce Training

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) and Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro announced Monday a $50 million partnership, Michigan Maritime Manufacturing Initiative, to train more workers for the defense manufacturing industry, as The Detroit News reported. Community colleges will help develop the training. “This massive partnership between federal, state and local leaders will help Michigan build a workforce to lead the future of defense,” Whitmer said. “In short, it will help us get ship done.”

Public Gets to See Former N.Y. Nuke Site

About 80 local residents went on the first public tour Sunday of the Seneca Army Depot’s Q-Area, where nuclear weapons were held before the New York depot closed in 1995, the Finger Lakes Daily News reported. The former depot is also home to the world’s largest herd of white deer.
