Fort Hood Shooting Survivor Hosts Concert in New York to Fund Fisher House

Last Saturday, Olean, New York saw the Southern Tier Wounded Warrior Benefit Concert at Bradner Stadium, which featured food, games, and live performances. The event was organized by Fort Hood, Texas shooting survivor Patrick Miller, who has overseen the event for years. “I believe in why we’re doing it. I believe in the cause,” Miller said, according to Buffalo News. The proceeds went to benefit Fisher House, which helps support military members and veterans while receiving medical care.

Veteran Retirement Home in Florida Gains 80 Acres from Eglin

MyPanhandle.com reported that the Air Force Enlisted Village in Okaloosa County, Florida has recently expanded by 80 acres. The land comes from Eglin Air Force Base, which sold it for $5 million and plans to use those funds to reinvest in the community. The Air Force Enlisted Village already houses retirement homes for 600 retired veterans, and now is expanding to include many more in the new “Victory Village.”

Alaska Base Seeks Local Help for Geothermal Investment

Fort Wainright, Alaska, has begun researching geothermal energy for heating, Task & Purpose reported. The first step is to take the temperature of deep underground wells in the surrounding area, meaning nearby residents are being asked to assist. The potential project would help Fort Wainright become energy independent as it continues to be a key piece in preparing for cold weather conflicts.
