Three-Star Army Lt. Gen. Jonathan Stubbs is now the acting chief of the National Guard Bureau, the Bureau announced in a statement. Stubbs, the former adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard, was confirmed by the Senate just last week to become director of the Army National Guard.
He will serve in the acting chief role until the Senate confirms a full-time successor to Army Gen. Daniel Hokanson, who retired Friday.
President Biden has nominated Air Force Lt. Gen. Steven Nordhaus to head the Guard but made the nomination later than many expected. As On Base reported, the Senate was not able to hold a confirmation hearing before it began its August recess.
