Missouri Base Restores Ecosystem with Aquatic Salamander Release
Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri recently released several Eastern hellbenders into streams on base, according to an Army story. The aquatic salamanders have been crucial to ecosystems in Ozark streams but have recently seen a dramatic decline in numbers since the 1980s. The base partnered with the St. Louis Zoo to ensure the hellbenders would be able to survive in the wild.
Steelers Partner with Veteran Organization to Forgive Debt
The Pittsburgh Steelers have pledged to give $100,000 in debt forgiveness for veterans every win this season, CBS News reported. Working with Verizon and ForgiveCo, the money will address the growing problem of military veteran financial debt, which has risen to $10 million in the region.
