House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) Tuesday night faced growing opposition to his plan for a six-month stopgap spending plan, including several from within his own party. Democrats are unlikely to support the plan, which also includes a conservative provision on election registration.
Former President Donald Trump weighed in Tuesday, seemingly suggesting he would support a government shutdown when the fiscal year ends Oct. 1.
If Republicans in the House, and Senate, don’t get absolute assurances on Election Security, THEY SHOULD, IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, GO FORWARD WITH A CONTINUING RESOLUTION,” Trump posted on Truth Social, as Axios reported.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has warned that enacting a continuing resolution that stretches a full six months would delay DOD’s ability to respond to emerging threats and address quality of life concerns, as On Base reported.
“As you have heard me say, our budget is aligned to our strategy,” Austin wrote in a letter to appropriators.
