Senate Confirms Nordhaus to Lead National Guard

September 27, 2024

The Senate voted this week to confirm the nomination of Lt. Gen. Steven Nordhaus as chief of the National Guard Bureau and to give him a fourth star. The bureau has been without a permanent head since Gen. Daniel Hokanson’s term ended.

During his confirmation hearing earlier this month, Nordhaus expressed concern about the number of Guard members being deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border.

“They’re not back home training for great power competition missions,” Nordhaus said, as On Base reported. “They’re not back home with their families and their employers getting set up so that the next time they’re asked to deploy overseas for a combat role, they have that spin for the National Guard.”
