Active Duty Troops Returning Home from Hurricane Support

October 25, 2024

About 1,000 active duty service members from Fort Liberty, North Carolina are headed home after helping with cleanup from Hurricane Helene, as Military.com reported.

“They delivered an incredible amount of lifesaving aid to folks that needed it most in the North Carolina communities,” Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters.

The Pentagon said this week that the troops conducted more than 100 ground missions and 70 air missions. They delivered 20,000 meals, more than 150,000 gallons of water and cleared debris from 660 miles of roads.

Thousands of National Guard members from a number of states are still on the ground in the Southeast helping after hurricanes Helene and Milton, along with FEMA and local and state response officials.
