President Joe Biden and the Pentagon are deploying up to 1,000 active duty Army personnel to North Carolina to help with Hurricane Helene response and recovery, as USA Today reported. The deployment will include soldiers from Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

They will “support the delivery of food, water and other critical aid ‘over the last mile to the point of need’ to communities impacted by Hurricane Helene,” Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement.

More than 6,500 National Guard members are also supporting response and recovery efforts across the affected region.
