DOD announced Monday a round of grant funding to 21 historically Black colleges and universities and 49 minority-serving institutions, according to a press release and the list of awardees. The funds, totaling $50 million, are to help the institutions buy research and scientific equipment.

“Investing in the research and development capacity of our academic partners remains a top priority for the Department of Defense,” said Evelyn Kent, director of the DOD HBCU/MI Program and Outreach. “These awards help enrich the curricula offered to scholars pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics degrees and support the training of the next-generation workforce.”

Defense University Research Grants

DOD announced last week $43 million in grants to 112 university researchers across 28 states, according to a press release and awardee list.

“This funding helps guarantee the enduring scientific excellence of our universities, nurtures the development of the next STEM workforce and catalyzes scientific innovations that will revolutionize military capabilities in the years ahead,” said Dr. Bindu Nair, director of the Basic Research Office.
