New Jersey Base Holds Event to Promote IGSAs

An Army story recently covered a conference hosted at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey that brought local law enforcement, emergency responders and firefighters to the base to strengthen community ties. Base officials briefed their local counterparts on similar work being done on the base and worked to improve intergovernmental support agreements and create social ties that will serve both communities. “My role here on the arsenal is similar to that of a mayor of a municipality,” Lt. Col. Craig Bonham II, the garrison commander, said. “I am making sure that public works, utilities and emergency services are taken care of.”

Wisconsin Base Solves Mysterious Civil War Shell Mystery

A DVIDS story recently covered the discovery of what seemed to be a Civil War-era artillery shell at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, a fort that was established long after the Civil War and hosted no battles. After the shell was ensured to be disarmed, local historians investigated the history of the shell and determined it was made only a few decades ago by the local Paulson Brothers Ordnance Company, who were known for making replicas for Civil War reenactments.
