Pendleton Readiness Center Plans to Draw Personnel

Camp Pendleton, Ohio has begun construction on a $20 million, 60,000 square feet readiness center, a plan that involves creating 400 local jobs. The goal of the center is to draw more National Guard personnel to the base for training, thereby diversifying and enhancing its value to the community. “Camp Perry has always been an integral part of our local economy,” Port Clinton Mayor Mike Snider told the Port Clinton News Herald. “We always think of the tourist aspects, but this is a year-round component of that. The folks that come here to train find themselves in our shops, restaurants and hotels when they are training, and a lot of times they bring their families back.”

Norfolk American Legion Asks for Community Support as Facility Rent Goes Up

The Norfolk, Virginia post of the American Legion may have to close after more than 100 years, the Virginian-Pilot reported. The roughly 300 members of Post 37 recently found out the facility’s rent will double, meaning a third relocation in five years. “We have existed for many years off dues, private donations and fundraisers, but now we need a real shot in the arm, like a free or low-cost building to rent or a big-ticket raffle item like a car,” said Alonzo Scott, the post’s commander.
