Navy Begins Project to Remove Invasive Species at Pearl Harbor

After a large effort in January to remove invasive octocoral failed to make a dent in the population, the Navy has announced new plans to increase the scale of its removal work, according to an Indo-Pacific Command article. A new plan has been developed that uses both smothering and hand removal to be completed over the next few years. While that proceeds, the Navy has partnered with multiple local groups to continue to manage the population.

Former Michigan Hotel to Become Veteran Housing

A former Holiday Inn in Detroit is being renovated by the nonprofit Tunnel to Towers Foundation to provide housing for 85 veterans, The Detroit Times reported. The project is expected to be finished in late 2025. It will also include services for the veteran residents like education and addiction assistance.
