The Black Hills region of South Dakota has an innovative way to welcome airmen and their families when they’re first stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Local residents have made it their mission to offer support through local tours, events, and connections, helping new arrivals feel at home.

The Black Hills region was celebrated during this week’s Installation Innovation Forum, along with Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Fort Smith, Arkansas as Great American Defense Communities, an ADC program sponsored by USAA.
