Fort Leonard Wood Upgrading Public Airport

The Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri region broke ground this week on a new airport terminal at the Waynesville Saint Robert Regional Airport. The airport is located on the installation but also serves the public.

“This is going to change the course of our region… with St. Robert, of course Waynesville and Fort Leonard Wood working together to make sure that we can facilitate the necessities for our community and our region,” Waynesville Mayor Sean Wilson said.

The Fort Leonard Wood region is a Great American Defense Community, through an ADC and USAA initiative.

Tyndall Begins Construction on Artificial Reef to Protect from Flooding

Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida has begun construction on a unique oyster reef design to limit the impact of flooding from storms. The new technique, according to an Air Combat Command story, involves building concrete structures to attract oysters and other marine life to build a more sustainable seawall. The Tyndall project is the first step in a wider program run by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Rutgers University, who are implementing similar strategies in places like Hawaii.
