California Base Awarded $42 Million for Long-Duration Energy Storage

Camp Pendleton, California was recently awarded a $42 million dollar grant from the California Energy Commission that will go toward constructing a long-duration battery storage facility, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. Planned to be completed by summer 2027, the system will provide redundancy and stability for the local power grid and will use zinc-based batteries aimed at limiting the risk of fire. “These projects are more than just an investment; they’re a shared commitment to a stronger, cleaner future,” said Meredith Berger, assistant secretary of the Navy for energy, installations and environment.
