Army Requests Bureau of Land Management Withdraw Miners Near Fort Huachuca

The Army recently applied to have land near Fort Huachuca, Arizona protected from adverse effects of nearby mining operations, according to a Department of the Interior announcement. The request includes 1,840 acres of land to be removed from mining and geothermal leasing laws, with 53.48 acres designated to be under Army control. Public comment for the decision is open for 90 days.

Navy and University of Hawaii Sign 10-Year Agreement

The Navy and the University of Hawaii recently signed a 10-year agreement aimed at preparing for extreme weather events and other climate disasters. The Navy will provide $10 million in annual funding to the university, according to Stars and Stripes, and in turn they will be given access to the school’s research and knowledge base, with potential for joint projects in the future.
