RFP: MIRR Consultancy in South Dakota

The city of Box Elder, South Dakota is searching for a “firm to lead a joint community/military assessment of shared vulnerabilities and risks associated with critical resources beyond military installation boundaries,” according to a newly released RFP. Proposals are due Jan. 23.

Four Communities Are Finalists for OLDCC Noise Mitigation Grants

DOD invited four communities to submit final proposals for noise mitigation grants available through the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, according to OLDCC’s website. OLDCC is considering a total of 13 projects in the four communities and organizations, which are Fort Smith, Arkansas, Westfield, Massachusetts, North Central Texas Council of Governments and Oak Harbor Public Schools in Washington. Awards will be issued early next year.

More Guard Troops Headed to NYC Subways

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is deploying 250 additional National Guard members to patrol New York City’s subway system, as NY1 reported. She had previously deployed 750 Guard members to supplement police in security and bag checks. Hochul said the deployment is not in response to a specific crime.

Communities Receive Texas Infrastructure Grants

Five Texas defense communities are receiving grant funding for infrastructure projects through the Texas Military Preparedness Commission’s Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant program, according to a press release. “This $17 million in grant funding will help ensure these Texas military facilities are up to date with the latest technology and support their infrastructure,” Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said. The entities are Copperas Cove, Wichita Falls, Corpus Christi, Tom Green County and Ark-Tex Council of Governments.

Several Sites Mentioned for New Space Force Boot Camp

Space Force leaders have said they want to establish a Guardian-specific boot camp instead of relying on Air Force training programs. Air & Space Forces Magazine identified five potential sites for a new Space Force boot camp: Patrick Space Force Base, Florida, Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, and Schriever, Peterson and Buckley Space Force bases in Colorado.
