House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will not include an additional round of aid for Ukraine in a stopgap spending bill, Politico reported. The White House requested the funding to make weapons to send to Ukraine and refill the U.S. military’s stock.
“It is not the place of Joe Biden to make that decision now,” Johnson told reporters Wednesday. “We have a newly elected president, and we’re going to wait and take the new commander-in-chief’s direction on all of that.”
Congress needs to pass a spending bill by Dec. 20 to avoid a government shutdown.
