Lawmakers were still working Tuesday evening to finalize a stopgap spending bill to avert a government shutdown when the current spending law expires Friday night, as The Washington Post reported. The bill would extend current fiscal year spending to March 14.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is getting heat from some in his Republican conference for the delay and for adding other provisions, including an extension of farm bill provisions. Johnson may need to rely on Democratic votes to pass the bill.
