The federal government is set to shut down on Dec. 20 if Congress doesn’t reach an agreement on fiscal year 2025 spending by then. Following the elections, House Republicans decided not to try to finish work on all 12 appropriations bills and instead work on a continuing resolution to keep the current spending levels into the new administration.
“[T]here’s no deal yet on a CR. But there’s also not going to be a shutdown either,” Punchbowl News reported Monday. “Democrats have no interest in it, and Republicans want to avoid anything to derail their move toward full control of Washington once Trump is back in office. Senior Hill aides say a deal could come together this week.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) reportedly wants to keep current spending into March.
