The Trump administration Friday night fired DOD Inspector General Robert Storch Friday night, along with the top watchdogs from almost every other federal agency. The White House told the officials their dismissals were “due to changing priorities,” The Washington Post reported.
Members of Congress from both parties expressed concern over the firings. By law, Congress should receive 30 days’ notice before an IG is removed from office.
“I don’t understand why one would fire individuals whose mission it is to root out waste, fraud and abuse,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said Saturday, according to The Hill. “This leaves a gap in what I know is a priority for President Trump.”
