Hegseth Has Enough Votes, CBS Reports; SASC Sets Jan. 14 Hearing

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) feels Pete Hegseth has enough support in the Senate to become defense secretary, according to CBS News. Hegseth, an Army veteran and former Fox News host, will likely face tough questions at his Jan. 14 Armed Services Committee confirmation hearing about stories of sexual assault and excessive drinking at previous jobs.

Hegseth and other high-profile nominees have been making the rounds on Capitol Hill for months.

“They’ve been going around and conducting their meetings, which I think, frankly, have gone very well, but they still have to make their case in front of the committee,” Thune said Sunday. “And, you know, we don’t know all the information about some of these nominees.”

But CBS cited three sources who said Thune had privately assured Trump that Hegseth has enough support to get the job.
