Dallas Redevelopment in Limbo Amid PFAS Battle with Navy
The city of Dallas, Texas, has been in a legal battle with the Navy after they failed to meet a deadline to clean PFAS out of the groundwater at the former site of Hensley Field. Dallas hopes to soon redevelop the land into a mixed-use residential area projected to house up to 12,000 residents according to Military.com, but no progress can be made until the Navy cleans the groundwater as they promised when they were sued in 2001.
D.C. Strikes a Deal, Sending a National Guard Squadron to Maryland
D.C.’s 121st Fighter Squadron is going to Maryland, in exchange for the site surrounding RFK stadium to come under the city’s control, according to The Washington Post. The exchange opens the way for redevelopment of the site, perhaps seeing the return of the Washington Commanders to their namesake city. Maryland’s new flight squadron protects it from being the only state without one in the new year due to a recent Air Force decision to ground the state’s previous only squadron for cybersecurity work.
