New Mexico State Issues Fine to Air Force After PFAS Spill

The New Mexico Environment Department has issued a nearly $68,000 fine to Cannon Air Force Base for failing to notify the state of a PFAS spill in August. The spill came when wastewater from firefighting chemicals leaked out of a retention pond and into the surrounding groundwater. According to Source New Mexico, the Air Force has 30 days to pay the fine or can appeal to have the fine reconsidered.

Colorado Springs Prepares to Connect New Battery Storage Facility

Colorado Springs Utilities, in partnership with NextEra, has built four battery storage containers that will be connected to the city grid by the end of this month. The goal of the storage system is to better prepare the community for high intensity usage periods, such as in summer when most homes are using a lot more power than usual. This project is one of many energy storage facilities NextEra has developed in Colorado, with two in Pueblo and three others across the state, according to Colorado Springs Gazette.

Fort Liberty Barracks Receives Furniture Renovation

Fort Liberty, North Carolina recently renovated its barracks, bringing in new modern furniture to enhance quality of life, according to army.mil. The rollout includes locks on storage systems, answering service member’s requests for security and convenience in the public living space.
