New Ohio Law to Increase School Access for Military Families

Ohio lawmakers recently passed a bill that requires schools to accept open enrollment for military members, according to Military.com. This means that military families can now enroll their children in any school, even if they are outside of the district. The bill was made to ease the burden of having of relocating.

California Bay Area’s Abandoned Bases

A KQED story recently covered the San Francisco area’s history with military bases and why so many now lay abandoned. In its podcast Bay Curious, KQED discussed the growth of San Francisco’s importance during WWII and the massive military industry that evolved. After the Cold War, BRAC closures came for San Francisco intensely due to the high cost of renovations and housing in the area. This led to many sites to be left abandoned, with only dim hopes of renovation.
